Employers in Maine must file Form W-2 with the state in addition to federal filing only if there is a state withholding to report.
As an employer in the state of Maine, you must file

Form W-3ME is a Reconciliation of Maine Income Tax Withheld for reporting the total tax amount withheld from wages and other payments reportable to Maine.
Maine requires Form W-3ME along with the
Form W-2.
3. Maine Form W-2 Filing Deadline
The deadline for filing both Form W-2 is February 1st, 2021. The deadline for filing the Reconciliation of Maine Income Tax Withheld Form W-3ME with the Maine state is
January 31, 2021.

4. Maine Form W-2 Penalty
If you miss filing your Form W-2 with Maine or file after the deadline, The penalty is $20 or 1% of the payment amount, whichever is greater.
