Form W-2 Filing Requirements for the State of Missouri

1. Missouri Form W-2 Filing Requirements for the 2020 Tax Year
Employers in Missouri must file Form W-2 with the state in addition to federal filing only if there is a state withholding to report.
As an employer in the state of Missouri, you must file
- Form W-2 - Wage and Tax Statements
- Form MO W-3- Transmittal of Tax Statements
2. Missouri Form MO W-3

Form MO W-3 is a Transmittal of Tax Statements for reporting the total tax amount withheld from an employees’ paycheck.
Missouri requires Form MO W-3 along with the Form W-2.
3. Missouri Form W-2 Filing Deadline
The deadline for filing Form W-2 (for more than 250 forms) and the Transmittal Form MO W-3 with the Missouri state is February 1st, 2021.
If you are filing 250 or less W-2 forms, the deadline is February 28, 2021.

4. Missouri Form W-2 Penalty
If you miss filing your Form W-2 with Missouri or file after the deadline, an amount of $2 per return (with a maximum of $1000) will be imposed as a penalty.

The State of Missouri suggests filers file Forms electronically for quick processing and to get instant updates on the filing status.
And, you must e-file Form W-2 with the state of Missouri if:
- You are filing 250 or more Form W-2-s
