2020 Tax Year
Employers in North Carolina must file Form W-2 with the state in addition to federal filing only if there is a state withholding to report.
As an employer in the state of North Carolina, you must file

- Form NC-3- North Carolina Annual Withholding Reconciliation
2. North Carolina Form NC-3

Form NC-3 is an Annual Withholding Reconciliation for reporting the total tax amount withheld from an
employee’s paycheck.
North Carolina requires Form NC-3 along with the Form W-2.
3. North Carolina Form W-2 Filing Deadline
The deadline for filing Form W-2 and the Annual Withholding Reconciliation Form NC-3 with the North Carolina state is January 31st, 2021.
Don’t wait until the deadline. Prepare and e-file your forms today, and have us mail your employee copies on
your behalf.
4. North Carolina Form W-2 Penalty
If you miss filing your Form W-2 with North Carolina or file after the deadline, The failure to file
the penalty is $50 per day, up to a maximum of $1,000.
